Electolytes Serum Test

Serum is the part of blood that doesn't contain cells. Sodium, potassium, and chloride levels are usually measured as part of a basic metabolic panel

The test is useful in evaluating cases of kidney disorder, high blood pressure or heart failure

You may be tested for electrolytes if your doctor thinks you have an imbalance of one of the electrolytes (usually sodium or potassium), or if he/she suspects an acid-base (pH) imbalance.
